Usage

The Parentheses

The parentheses is (clearly) stronger than a comma.

You can (usually) put a parenthetical thought anywhere (and I mean, anywhere) in a sentence.

How lucky parentheses must be, to have so much freedom. (And it's often used as an afterthought.)

It is used for abbreviations too. The Associated Press (AP) has a list of many abbreviations.

And, of course, it is used to cite references (The Grammar Blog).
