The Hyphen

First, we met the em dash —

And then the en dash –

And now, it's hyphen time -

Notice the difference? The hyphen sure is small. It's more useful than it looks, though.

How is it different than the en dash?

It's used for many game-changing compound words. See what I did there?

And you can use it to show multiple compound words. Say, for example, to describe your green- and yellow-painted car.

Of course, it's used in phone numbers too. My number is 555-555-5555. Just kidding, I wouldn't give my number out on the internet.
